Swiss Academic Software, a Swiss limited liability company, had a clear goal in mind when it developed Citavi. That goal is to help you organize your knowledge. That is why Citavi has reference management, knowledge organization, and task planning functionality to offer. It is ideally suited for students, researchers, knowledge-oriented companies or organizations, and libraries.

There are, in all, four Citavi editions: Citavi Free, Citavi Team, Citavi Pro, Citavi Reader. Here’s a quick look at these four editions:
Citavi Free – get this free starter edition if you want to test Citavi. It’s meant to be used with projects that have up to 100 references.
Citavi Team – conduct solo projects or collaborate with others on team projects.
Citavi Pro – has lots of features for solo projects, but only allows you to read larger team projects.
Citavi Reader – view solo and team projects, edit projects up to 100 references.

The system requirements for running Citavi are: at least 1GB of RAM (4GB recommended); Windows operating system (Windows 8, 7, Vista, Server 2008, Server 2012). The setup wizard that guides you through the installation asks you to choose between a Complete and a Custom installation. Go with the Custom installation and you will get to choose which features will be installed: Citavi, Word add-in, Picker for Adobe Reader/Acrobat, picker for Google Chrome, Picker for Internet Explorer.

Citavi comes bundled with a sample project and that, to be honest, is great. By loading the sample you will get to see how the interface looks like when it's populated with info, you will get to experiment with the functionality Citavi has to offer, you will be able to more easily figure out what can be done with Citavi.

Here’s a quick look at the features Citavi puts at your disposal: create, edit, and view solo or team projects; easily search for resources; easily organize content; save quotations, save thoughts; plan tasks; create articles, papers, reports, books.

Citavi is a very useful knowledge and reference management tool!

Pros

Little time and effort will go into installing Citavi on your PC. Get started with Citavi Free, upgrade to one of three paid editions (Team, Pro, Reader). Reference management, knowledge organization, and task planning functionality is offered by Citavi. It integrates with Chrome and Word. There’s a sample project that you can play with.

Cons

None that I could think of.
